TL;DR news on Jeff Hardy at June 14, 2023
According to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, WWE offered Hardy the chance to go to rehab, but Hardy declined, which resulted in his release. Matt said the result never came back but that Jeff knew he had passed because he hadn't been using drugs. Matt suggested WWE jumped the gun by releasing Jeff and expressed his belief that the stress of working for WWE is what prompted Jeff to walk out rather than any issues with drugs or alcohol. That naturally fueled speculation that Jeff would eventually join his brother Matt in AEW for one last run as the Hardy Boyz on a big national stage. The Hardy Boyz are undoubtedly among the greatest tag teams of all time, having held tag team titles in WWE nine times, as well as the TNA and Ring of Honor Tag Team Championships. Jeff has accomplished a ton on his own as well, holding the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, Intercontinental Championship and United States Championship in WWE. The live crowd erupted for Jeff's return and the segment ended with the brothers standing across the ring from Sting and Darby Allin. AEW president Tony Khan subsequently confirmed Hardy's signing. Hardy was released from WWE in December, but reportedly refused an offer from WWE to return two months later and receive a WWE Hall of Fame induction. Jeff broke his leg during a motocross accident on his own property and Hardy revealed what his immediate reaction was when he got to the hospital. With rumors still surrounding Jeff Hardy becoming All Elite, the Charismatic Enigma officially became a free agent today and is able to sign with AEW at any moment. The bell rang, and referee Brian Hebner threw the X sign, indicating Hardy was in no condition to wrestle. Hardy won't be able to sign with AEW until March 9 and shot down his quotes from the interview on social media. Hardy is a known name in wrestling and would be better suited to debut on a grand stage. Jeff's arrival in AEW will also signal that Matt's retirement is at hand. Older brother Matt has stated publicly that he'll retire after the next Hardy Boyz run, which will likely begin this year. Having Hardy lose everything he built in a shocking betrayal at Revolution would set the stage for a Hardy Boyz vs. Jeff & Christian got shoved from their ladder all the way over the top to the floor where they went crashing down. With Hardy oozing with charisma and his devil may care attitude, fans gravitated towards him because he was truly a joy to watch onscreen. Interestingly, wrestling fans are heavily interested in seeing The Hardy Boyz reunite whenever Jeff arrives in Tony Khan's promotion. Drew McIntyre has been feuding with Happy Corbin and Madcapp Moss since November 2021 when McIntyre teamed up with Jeff Hardy to defeat the duo. Jeff is a friend of mine, I really like him very much, and I think the world of him. If WWE could provide evidence that Hardy was negotiating with AEW while under contract, it may constitute tampering. AEW and Jeff Hardy need to tread lightly for one more week because WWE is looking for mistakes.
